Course Description
Register for the courses (even if you cannot attend the day of) to receive a recording of the broadcast!
Understanding the laws regarding assistance animals can keep you and your clients out of trouble! Whether you are the property manager or your clients are owners, tenants, buyers or sellers of single-family homes, apartment buildings or Common Interest Developments (CID) properties, reasonable accommodations are required for assistance animals.
In this three (3) hour course, you'll gain a working knowledge of the federal and state fair housing and other anti-discrimination laws regarding assistance animals and the rights and obligations of the homeowner associations, the individual unit owners, the landlords and their tenants. Learn when it is ok to ask for a doctor’s prescription.
Course Objectives:
- Recognize the difference between "service animals" and "emotional support or comfort animals
- Understand the rights, restrictions, and obligations of landlords, tenants, homeowner associations and unit owners regarding assistance animals and pets
- Describe the characteristics of emotional support animals
- Understand and explain the laws that apply to assistance animals under housing rights
As the laws become more complicated and the needs for service and comfort animals increase don’t lose your share of the housing market because you don’t know the law!

Recordings and Exams: If applicable, exams and/or recordings will be made available before 5pm the business day after the broadcast ends. At that point all eligible participants for exams and recordings will be notified via email. Recordings are not available for CE courses or NAR Designations/Certifications. Exams will be administered by OnlineEd.com.
Certifications and Designations: All participants in NAR courses will be contacted with next steps within two weeks after the course ends. Please visit the NAR resource page for applications and other relevant details for NAR Certifications and Designations.
All participants in C.A.R. Education courses will automatically receive certificates 24 hours after all required courses and exams have been completed and passed. Please visit the C.A.R. Certifications page for relevant details on desired certifications.

Transfer, cancellation and refund policy:
Purchasing for other people
All purchases must be made by the person attending the course and no substitutions will be allowed. Certificates can only be issued in the name of the person who purchased the course.
Only C.A.R. Members are eligible to purchase and take courses at Member pricing. If you purchased a class for someone else in error, please email us at education@car.org with the online order number, and include a phone number where we can reach you.
Need to reschedule?
You may transfer to a future LearnMyWay® session without penalty at any time up to two (2) days prior to your course. We allow one reschedule per course. If you provide C.A.R. Education with less than a two (2) day notice or fail to attend, you will be liable for the entire course fee.
Second and subsequent reschedules will result in a $15.00 processing fee per reschedule. All rescheduling requests must be sent to education@car.org and include the order number associated with the purchase of the course.
Cancellation and refund policy
You may cancel a course without penalty at any time up to two (2) days prior to your course. Those who book within two (2) days are not eligible for cancellation or refunds. To cancel, please send an email to education@car.org and identify the name of the course and include the order number associated with the purchase of the course. Refunds will be issued in the same form of payment that was made.
